Bamboo Fire Cafe: Guyanese Oxtail Pepperpot in Pineapple Grove

Bamboo Fire Cafe brings a family-owned Caribbean and world-cuisine menu with deep Guyanese roots to NE 4th Avenue in Delray Beach's Pineapple Grove Arts District. Owners Donald and Beverly Jacobs, originally from Berbice, Guyana, have run the kitchen for more than 17 years, with their daughter Lauren, nicknamed "Smiley," often out on the floor.

Oxtail Pepperpot and a Full Caribbean Spread

The menu centers on Beverly's own recipes, including an oxtail pepperpot slow-braised in her brown sauce and a curry goat built from her family's Berbice preparation. Jerk chicken, ribs, and platters round out the Jamaican side of the menu, while whole fried snapper and grilled or ceviche-style conch cover the seafood end. Rum cake with ice cream closes things out, and everything is described as cooked from scratch, with vegetarian and other dietary accommodations available.

Boca Magazine called it "a neighborhood institution where the curries taste like home cooking" in a 2022 write-up, and regulars point to the family's personal touch, staff who remember names and a warm, unpretentious dining room rather than a polished one.
